“What makes it so exciting is there is something for everyone.”Tracy Samora, Director of Alumni and Community Relations.
Homecoming is traditionally a time to welcome alumni back to campus to celebrate the history of Colorado State University-Pueblo along with keeping alumni involved on campus to remember their time at the university. However at CSU-Pueblo, homecoming week is more than just for alumni, but also a week filled with events that encourages current students and families to get involved. This year’s Homecoming and Family Weekend theme is “Let the Good Times Howl.”
There are 21 different events set during the week of October 14-20 which are open to the entire campus community, not just the alumni. CSU-Pueblo welcomes alumni along with other members from the community, families and students, staff and faculty members of the campus.
Events can range from the bonfire on Friday night, to the engineering breakfast to a Sunday brunch that closes out the week’s festivities.
Students also have opportunities to get involved with homecoming week because this year Family Weekend has been added to the festivities. The office of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEAL) has added family weekend, and sponsors events such as the bonfire to get students involved with homecoming and alumni.
Students and alumni are encouraged to take part in the College of Science and Math Research Symposium Thursday, October 17.
“The 15th Annual CSM Research Symposium will be a showcase and celebration of STEM student research at CSU-Pueblo. This is the perfect opportunity for our STEM alumni and STEM-supporting companies and organizations to come to campus and learn about all of the fantastic STEM research that our students are engaged in. The Symposium will be a huge poster session, showcasing over 50 different projects, with the student researchers ready to share their research with you. The CSM Research Symposium will run from 1:30-4:30pm in the Occhiato Student Center Fireside Lounge.”Abby Davidson, Director of the Science Learning Center and Assistant Director of Communities.
Homecoming week will also consist of a career fair giving students another opportunity to meet with alumni which takes place Tuesday, October 15 from 11:00am-3:00pm in the OSC Ballroom. Students will also have another opportunity to talk with alumni during donuts and coffee in the Library and Academic Resource Center (LARC) Wednesday, October 16 at 8:30 am.
Larger events taking place this week will include the tailgate and the homecoming football game. The student and family tailgate will take place in the Thunderbowl parking lot from noon-2 pm and the alumni tailgate will take place starting at noon on the rooftop deck of the Leomiti Warrior Center at the Neta & Eddie DeRose Thunderbowl (tickets required). Following the tailgate will be the football game against Colorado Mesa with a 2 pm kickoff (tickets required). For more information about Homecoming please contact Tracy Samora, Director of Alumni and Community Relations at 719-549-2858 or visit the Alumni website.
